Project Overview
The Municipality of Grey Highlands is considering re-branding! We recently completed a Strategic Plan, which identified the need to modernize the Grey Highlands brand and sense of community-wide pride and develop a marketing strategy to attract investment in tourism, industry and residential and commercial development. The Strategic Plan is available at the right side under "Links". This Strategic Plan is a roadmap to achieve positive results for our community within this term of Council and beyond.
The Municipality of Grey Highlands proudly introduces a new visual branding that captures our community's essence and aspirations. As we step forward into a future set with potential, we must reflect on who we are through a modern lens that respects our roots while embracing progress.
The Four Leaves: Representing four symbolic features of Grey Highlands
Rich Agricultural Heritage:
The leaves reflect our strong agricultural roots. They represent our flourishing farms and the bounty they produce, pivotal to our local economy and way of life.
Current and Potential Growth:
The plants are depicted in various stages of growth, symbolizing both our current state and our aspirations. This visual progression from smaller to larger leaves illustrates our focus on continual growth and advancement.
Raising Families:
The nurturing environment depicted by the plants represents Grey Highlands as a fertile ground for raising families, where community support and natural beauty thrive.
Community of Communities:
The leaves honour the four former Townships before amalgamation in 2001: the Town of Markdale, the Village of Flesherton, and the Townships of Artemesia, Euphrasia, and Osprey. They also represent the many other communities and their integral role in the broader landscape of Grey Highlands.
A Tagline That Resonates: "grow here" represents four aspects of multidimensional growth:
Familial Growth:
Encouraging young families to plant roots and thrive.
Agricultural Growth:
Expanding our robust farming traditions with innovative practices.
Business Growth:
Cultivating an environment where businesses of all sizes can prosper.
Personal and Community Development:
Fostering personal development and strengthening communal bonds.
For the past six years, the Council has deemed an updated look as a priority in the past two strategic plans, wanting to modernize the logo for an inclusive look and feel for our municipality.
At the September 4th Council meeting, Council received a branding strategy report on a proposed new look and feel for Grey Highlands.
As part of the strategy, a corporate crest was proposed to maintain the history and formality of the municipality since its inception, as well as an updated logo that incorporates elements that symbolizes growth, belonging, and the potential of Grey Highlands.
Thoughtfully scheduled for the remainder of 2024 and 2026 in phases, beginning with digital platforms and priority assets, followed by a gradual transition of municipal assets, culminating in comprehensive signage updates, this plan respects the municipal budget while allowing us to move forward with a fresh, new look.
Council has directed staff to conduct a survey to get public feedback. Let us know what you think!

The tagline "grow here," which encapsulates our invitation and promise to all who wish to grow—in family, farming, business, or personal fulfillment—within our welcoming borders.
Our new visual branding is more than a logo; it is a commitment to inclusivity, growth, and
community. Through "GH: grow here" and the touching imagery of the four leaves, we encapsulate
the values, ambitions, and spirit of Grey Highlands. This branding honours where we have been
and, more importantly, where we are going. It is an invitation to all, a declaration that in Grey
Highlands, there is opportunity to grow - in every sense of the word.
The updated Grey Highlands logo, characterized by its sprouting plants, elegantly symbolizes our community's core values and dynamic spirit.
The color scheme retains a connection to the natural and lush palette reminiscent of our landscapes yet is refreshed to reflect a more modern, vibrant future.
The typography has been updated to a cleaner, more contemporary style, ensuring the brand remains approachable and easily recognizable. Overall, while echoing the familiar, the visual elements are rendered with modernity and freshness that speaks to Grey Highlands' forward looking aspirations. Grey Highlands aims to balance honoring our heritage and embracing progress.
The period after Grey Highlands embodies the boldness of our vision, emphasizing that the name alone stands as a definitive statement of our confidence, quality, and intent.
The green representation of the ‘gh’ reflects the leading letters of the tagline “grow here.” This could be used strategically throughout the municipality’s communications with tag lines for specific projects, i.e., gathered here.
What is a brand?
A brand, from a municipal perspective, is the unique identity of a town, city, or other municipality, encompassing its reputation, values, culture, and the promise it makes to its residents and visitors. It embodies the essence of the municipality's character, including its heritage, environment, economic offerings, and vision for the future.
Why rebrand?
A municipality should consider rebranding to revitalize its image, attract new businesses, tourists, and residents, as well as to reflect changes and growth within the community. Rebranding can shed a positive light on the municipality's developments and modernization efforts, making it more appealing to external investors and boosting local pride among residents. This can lead to greater economic opportunities and improved social cohesion as the community rallies around a new, unified identityHow can I participate?
