About this Initiative
Grey Highlands is currently delivering a community safety initiative supported through a grant that strengthens proactive policing, improves road safety, and builds stronger neighbourhood connections. Funding has enabled practical, community‑driven investments that enhance visibility, support data‑informed enforcement, and provide officers with tools to engage more effectively across our rural municipality.
Community input remains a key requirement of this grant. Feedback gathered through this survey helps demonstrate local support, confirms priorities identified in the Community Safety and Well‑Being Plan, and informs how future funding can continue to support community safety in Grey Highlands.
Initiative Highlights
🚲 E‑Bikes for Community Policing
Grey Highlands donated two e‑bikes to support increased community policing. These eco‑friendly vehicles allow officers to patrol town streets and trails with greater agility, including areas with limited or no vehicle access. E‑bikes enable closer interaction with residents, support community outreach, and help foster trust and collaboration—while still allowing officers to respond quickly to urgent service calls.
📹 Surveillance Equipment
To support modern, proactive policing, Grey Highlands provided local OPP with new surveillance equipment. These tools enhance situational awareness, support community‑focused enforcement, and further strengthen officer safety. This investment reflects a commitment to forward‑thinking approaches that help keep our rural community safe.
🚗 Traffic Counters for Data‑Driven Speed Enforcement
Grey Highlands added three additional traffic counters to its inventory, enabling OPP to take a data‑driven approach to speed enforcement. By tracking excessive speed, times of day, and other key data, officers can focus enforcement and proactive measures at the highest‑risk locations and times. This targeted approach improves road safety and ensures police resources are deployed where they are needed most.
